Help Wanted
Project type
Sculpture
Date
December 2022
Location
Permanent Installation at USC Sustainability Hub
This project was an environmental campaign concept titled "Help Wanted," designed to unify sustainably focused organizations. The trash bear would be accompanied with a print aspect that could be implemented into public spaces to engage a greater population with the bear acting as an anchor for the marketing strategy and a physical representation of the facts.
The bear has lived on as a permanent installation on campus at the USC Sustainability Hub and new mascot of the sustainability program. Below is the artist statement that accompanies it today.
-Artist Statement-
The Polar Bear is the largest land predator alive, with record males weighing over 1,500 lbs and standing nearly 10 feet tall. This life-size sculpture is made from 99% found trash and visually (it's not actually 1,500 lbs) represents the average weight of trash a single American produces in a year, over 1,500 lbs.
